About the USCG Auxiliary

General Organization
The Coast Guard Auxiliary operates on four organizational levels: Flotilla, Division, District/Region, and National.
Flotilla - The flotilla is the basic Auxiliary unit, comprised of at least 15 qualified members. Flotillas are headed by a Commander (FC).
Division - Flotillas are grouped into Divisions, which provide administrative, training and supervisory support. Divisions are headed by a Division Captain (DCP), and Division Vice-Captain (VCP).
District/Region - Flotillas and divisions are organized in districts comparable to Coast Guard Districts, and provide administrative and supervisory support, and promote district commander and national Auxiliary committee policies.
Who We Are. Our History, Mission, Purpose
We are here to assist the U.S. Coast Guard in performing Coast Guard functions, powers, duties, roles, missions or operations authorized by law; to promote safety; to foster a wider knowledge of rules and regulations governing the operation of watercraft.
This Flotilla has been active in the greater Sacramento and Delta area for many years.
How We Serve You
Public Education - Classes on boating techniques and safety for adults as well as youth.
Vessel Safety Checks - Free safety checks.
Marine Dealer Visits - Visit marine dealers and marinas with safety information, and assist with access to Coast Guard resources for recalls and consumer complaints.
Aviation and Marine Safety Patrols - Patrol Delta and local waters to promote safety awareness and assist boaters in distress. Assist Coast Guard with aviation mission support.
U.S. Coast Guard Academy (AIM Program) and Recruiting Assistance - Through speaking at local area schools and youth organizations, Flotilla 31 members interview and recruit young people for the U.S. Coast Guard Academy 'Academy Introduction Mission (AIM)' Project. (Two hundred twenty high-school juniors nationwide visit the Coast Guard Academy for one week each summer to gain insight into cadet life.) The Flotilla is also active in assisting local Coast Guard recruiters.
Boat Shows, Safe Boating Week, Opening Day of Yacht Season and Other Public Affairs - Staff boat show booths, answer questions, pass out safety literature, assist in local boating events.
Coast Guard Assistance - Serve as volunteer watch-standers, service communication stations, lend logistics help, and other volunteer activities as required.
